About this Calculator 💡
NEWS-2 is the latest iteration of the National Early Warning Score, the gold standard for clinical assessment of acute illness severity. It monitors six physiological parameters—respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, systolic blood pressure, pulse rate, level of consciousness, and temperature—while accounting for supplemental oxygen use. It is a critical tool for the early detection of clinical decline and sepsis risk.
Reference Values
- • Score 0-4: Low clinical risk. Ward-based response.
- • Score 5-6 or 3 in a single parameter: Medium clinical risk. Urgent response required.
- • Score ≥ 7: High clinical risk. Emergency/Critical care response required.
Formula
Sum of points assigned to 7 physiological parameters.
